A new architect has the plan for the El Chapultepec building at 20th and Market Streets. Fox 31 reports The Monfort Companies have hired 4240 Architects, with Jen Nieman at the helm, designing a “high-end convenience location and a bodega, similar to what you might find in New York.” (SOURCE: KDVR News/El Chapultepec/historic jazz-venue/)
Shout out to the Colorado-based blues duo known as “100 Pound Housecat.” Melly Francis and Keke Lee made to the semi-finals of the International Blues Challenge held in Memphis a few weeks ago. 100 Lb. Housecat is also in the running for Favorite Solo/Duo artist with the Delta Sonics Duo and Scott Hackler in the upcoming Colorado Blues Society Members Choice Awards, Sunday, March 23 at The Buffalo Rose in Golden. The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has taken “giving flowers while the receiver is still alive to smell them” to the next level. The new Jazz Legacies Fellowship is giving unrestricted $100,000 grants to 20 jazz musicians who are all at least 62 years old, including George Cables, 80, George Coleman, 89, Akua Dixon, 76, Tom Harrell, 78, Billy Hart, 84, Carmen Lundy, 70, Amina Claudine-Myers, 82, Roscoe Mitchell, 84, Julian Priester, 89, Dizzy Reece, 94, Herlin Riley, 68, Michele Rosewoman, 71, Reggie Workman, 87, and others.
Mellon partnered with the Jazz Foundation of America, whose Musicians Emergency Fund provides real-time relief to struggling jazz musicians, many who have gone their whole careers without health insurance or secure housing. (SOURCE: Jazz Foundation / Jazz Fellowships)
