For more details and to get your tickets, visit Denver Arts and Venues.
Kickoff the day and tune into KUVO 89.3FM the morning of the screening for an in-depth review of the film. First Take hosts Carlos Lando and Steve Chavis will examine the film starting at 7:35am and start the conversation. Special guest Neicie Washington, Denver Arts and Venues Five Points Jazz Festival Director joins the discussion at 8:35am.
“Bird” is a biopic of the famed jazz saxophone player, Charlie “Yardbird” Parker. Addicted to drugs from a young age, Parker suffered the corresponding highs and lows. Supported by his loving wife Chan, who resisted attempts to have him placed in a mental institution, he continued to play his new style of music, revolutionizing jazz. Charlie Parker once expressed, “Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don’t live it, it won’t come out your horn. They teach you there’s a boundary line to music. But, man, there’s no boundary line to art.”
“The Five Points Jazz Festival truly has something for everyone – enthusiast or newbie. Five Points is our neighborhood and we are honored to be a part of such an integral event in our community. See you there,” shares Tina Cartagena , KUVO Chief Development Officer.
It’s gonna be cool, crazy, and hot! Come see us at the KUVO booth at the festival. For the first time, we will be broadcasting live from the street and with our own food/beer garden.
