Ricky O
My Musical Influence has to be my father Richard J. Olguin Sr., he is an amazing drummer and since the age of 2 he taught me how to play. When I was around 8 years old I took lessons to read music and my dad helped me develop my ear and the art of improvisation. I was raised on jazz and R&B.
I play New Mexico Spanish music and Rock & Roll. To this day, I play all types of music; this helps me with my mobile DJ service at club with mixing beats, blending and styles. When my family had parties I was the DJ, they put me in front of the stereo and with stack of LPs and 45s. I was very smooth putting the needle to the groove.
My favorite groups were and still are Santana, Malo, El Chicano, War, Earth Wind and Fire, Ohio Players, Grover Washington Jr, George Benson, Max Roach, Gene Kruppa, Buddy Rich, Billy Cobham, Willi Bobo and Art Blakey. I was raised on great music.
