Katelyn TenEyck | 30 Under 30

Katelyn TenEyck began playing piano, violin, and trumpet as a fifth grader. During middle school, her sixth grade orchestra was without a bass player so she taught herself how to play bass and fell in love.

Katelyn’s short statue has provided a challenge to playing bass. But through techniques and tricks, she has learned how to successfully play on a three-quarter bass.

Crowds often get a kick out of seeing Katelyn play a bass almost the same size as herself.

“Being a women in this industry, you can help lead the way for future women musicians,”Katelyn said.

To celebrate 30 years on the air and invest in the future of jazz, KUVO interviewed 30 local musicians under the age of 30. These features will be released on-air and online June 29-October 31.
