Jazz Appreciation Month on Rocky Mountain PBS

Holly DeHoog is a veteran of the Boulder jazz scene and has been in residence every Saturday night for many years at the South Boulder Speakeasy, a little side bar next to The Tandoori Grill.
Per Ms DeHoog, “My band Holly and the Husbands features some really great seasoned jazz musicians. I don’t have a husband myself. I borrow other people’s husbands to play music. It's sometimes difficult to resist playing with so many great jazz musicians in Colorado. I enjoy hearing and singing different takes on jazz and blues. The Husbands du jour for this show are the Colorado jazz greats, Andy Weyl on keys, Clare Church on drums, and Brian Casey on bass.
Holly DeHoog is a natural and very fine singer who sings jazz somewhat in the style of the early jazz era with a relaxed, sultry, and charming humor. She doesn’t fit any mold, and I’m very fond of her lack of pretense and her soulful and truthful musical expression. Delightful and refreshing.
Andy Weyl was born in Denmark and spent his youth traveling across Europe. He moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he received a degree in piano performance from the University of Colorado in 1978. Over the years, he has played and recorded with the region’s best jazz musicians.
Brian Casey is a jazz bassist, DMA, and educator and researcher based in Colorado. Brian serves as Associate Professor of Academic Jazz at the University of Northern Colorado. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Brian has performed and/or recorded with Eric Skye, Pink Martini, Weber Iago, Henry Butler, Anson Wright, Robert Johnson, Lillian Boutté, and many others.
Clare Church has had 30-plus years as a professional multi-reedist, performing all different styles and genres, mostly on baritone and alto saxophones, and more recently as an accomplished jazz drummer. Her very first gigs were backing Tony Bennett, the Temptations and the Four Tops; she was a regular in the Joe Henderson Big Band and performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter, Nancy Wilson, Mel Torme, Doc Severinsen, Tito Puente Jr., Natalie Cole, The Temptations, Gladys Knight and the Pips, and Frankie Vallee and the Four Seasons. She is also the co-director of the Muse Performance Space in Lafayette.
