Behind The Mic: The Next Episode of RMPBS’ “Colorado Experience”

On Behind The Mic this week, we preview the next episode of “Colorado Experience” on Rocky Mountain PBS: “The Ski Train” on The Morning Set! This episode delves into the history of the Winter Park Express, a beloved ski train that carves its way from Denver through Colorado’s mountains to the ski slopes. The first riders of the ski train were 100 years ago as Denverites ached for that fresh powder and easy access to it. After the train was discontinued from 2009 to 2017, it gained more and more popularity offering travelers a different option to the high country as opposed to the driving headaches of I-70. This episode captures the romance and adventure of a unique rail experience and its legacy in the heart of ski country.

Colorado Experience Producer Alexis Kikoen and Paul Hammond, Executive Director of The Colorado Railroad Museum joined Abi Clark of The Morning Set to talk about this iconic train and the upcoming Colorado Experience Episode around it. The history of this train, and the people who made it special and beautiful mountain scenes are all part of a new documentary, “Colorado Experience: The Ski Train.” This episode features historians, riders, a former conductor, and others who trace the history and importance of the train.
