KUVO Studio Club: The Open Source Ensemble | Mar 21

Open Source

The Open Source Ensemble will perform in the Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio in front of the Studio Club audience on Wednesday, March 21 from 5 to 6pm. Conceived by bassist Seth Lewis and Tenor-man Kenyon Brenner, Open Source is a collaborative group of Denver area jazz composers and players who draw musical inspiration from greats such as: The Jazz Messengers, Miles Davis’ Quintets, Horace Silver and Wayne Shorter.

KUVO Studio Club welcomes the Lamont Jazz Orchestra for a live performance on Wednesday, March 28 from 7 to 8pm. The University of Denver's Lamont Jazz Orchestra has won the top award at the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival in a tie with Central Oklahoma University. Lamont soloists, Dylan Vessel, trumpet and Matt Campbell, drums won two to the four Judges Soloist Awards!

KUVO Jazz welcomed the Alfredo Rodríguez Trio to the Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio on Friday, March 9.  Here's an edited version of the half-hour performance.

The young Cuban pianist now living in Los Angeles, Alfredo Rodríguez was discovered and brought to the US by Quincy Jones who has produced all 4 of his outstanding CDs. Alfredo on piano with Omar Hossn on bass and Michael Olivera on drums.  The Trio will also play at Dazzle at Baur’s Friday, evening at 6:30p and 9pm.

The Colorado School of Mines Jazz Ensemble is performing for Studio Club in the Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio on Tuesday, March 13 at 7pm, hosted by Geoff Anderson. The Jazz Ensemble is one of four large performing ensembles at CSM.  Members of the ensemble are engineering students across a wide range of majors. The group performs regularly in the Denver area, and has performed as far away as Dublin, Ireland.  The group regularly records in collaboration with the Music Technology program and is currently compiling works for a "Music at Mines" album.
