We begin the Autumn editions of New Music Monday with a multi-colored palette of various styles of jazz. The highly esteemed pianist-composer and bandleader, Eric Reed releases Groovewise for the Smoke Sessions label, Eric is accompanied by Ben Williams-bass, Gregory Hutchinson-drums and Seamus Blake plays saxophone. Eight of the CD’s ten tracks are originals by Mr. Reed. The multi-talented Carmen Lundy, visual artist, composer, arranger, entrepreneur and oh yeah, vocalist, has a new one, Soul to Soul featuring pianist Patrice Rushen and guests Randy Brecker-trumpet, Bennie Maupin-soprano sax and others. As always Ms. Lundy has photos of her portraits and sculptures inside the accompanying booklet, an advantage of having the CD and not a downloaded version. Carmen Lundy-Patrice Rushen and their group plays Mount Vernon Country Club in Golden, Wednesday October 8th.

Another gifted vocalist’s latest is titled Paris Sessions, a showcase for a different musical side of the popular Tierney Sutton. As the title indicates, the recordings took place in Paris with a French bassist and guitarist. Originally from Milwaukee and now based out of Bloomington, IN, drummer-percussionist-vibraphonist and bandleader Mitch Shiner debuts with his Blooming Tones Big Band, Fly! is a swinging session with several Latin jazz tracks featuring the accomplished players, Michael Spiro on percussion and Wayne Wallace on trombone, moreover Wallace’s label Patois Records has released this album

Join me at Noon-MTN time to hear these premieres as well as a few others pulled form the stack of new arrivals. New Music Monday takes a 1-week hiatus after this edition and returns on Monday, October 6th.
