We close out March-Women’s History Month spotlighting three new releases that have women as leaders. The honey-toned vocalist Cassandra Wilson is back with a tribute to Billie Holiday one of several to be issued throughout 2015, the centennial of her birth. On Coming Forth by Day, Ms. Wilson decided to focus on the lyrics of Billie’s most poignant songs and sing them from the heart. Since debuting in 1997, pianist Lisa Hilton continues to rise up on the scale of musicians deserving of wider recognition, her latest Horizons features Aurora’s own, Rudy Royston on drums. The veteran vocalist out of San Francisco, Mary Stallings has a new one, Feelin’ Good featuring some of NYC best session accompanists.

From Fort Collins we have the new album by trombonist John Hines, You & I featuring Brad Goode on trumpet among other Front Range players and vocalist Donna DeVine. The talented trombonist John Fedchock and his Quartet release a live recording, Fluidity.  Also, on tap are new ones by saxophonist Tim Warfield, drummer Steve Gadd and others.

The fun begins at Noon on Lunchtime at the Oasis.
