The Savoy Denver

A collaboration of Emancipation Theater Company and Theatre Artibus In the Pocket: The Ballad of Bobby Trombone imagines life inside the historical Rossonian Hotel, located at the pinnacle of Five Points, Denver’s historic Black neighborhood. Three employees tell the story of its rich jazz history and how it earned its nickname “The Harlem of the West” (a fictionalized account based on historic facts). In the Pocket is supported in part by a grant from Denver Arts and Venues. Nonagenarian David Amram boasts a remarkable eight-decade career in music. In his early years, Amram made his mark as a jazz French horn player, sharing the stage with legendary artists such as Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, and Miles Davis. He later left an indelible legacy in classical music, marked by collaborations with the likes of Leonard Bernstein. Amram’s impressive classical repertoire encompasses over 100 orchestral and chamber music compositions, in addition to numerous scores for theater and film.…
