Join host Michael Wulfsohn on Monday, March 11 at 8pm for “Wulfie’s Wax Museum,” on the Monday Night Beat, as we go back in time nearly 35 years, finely tune-in, and focus our light on Azymuth, with their 1985 Milestone release, “Spectrum.”  We’ll listen to Side 2, which features Brazilian-tinged fusion, dance music, funky stuff, and a beautiful ballad. The original LP release was simultaneously issued in very limited numbers on CD in Japan, and Germany, but now is available most commonly only on vinyl, or compilation CDs.

“Spectrum” was the group’s 11th album since forming in 1973, and 45 years later they are still kickin’ it today. Rio style!  A Brazilian Jazz Trio rooted in Rio de Janeiro, Azymuth was formed by bassist and guitarist Alex Malheiros, drummer and percussionist Ivan Conti, and the late, José Roberto Bertrami on keyboards, all of whom perform on this LP. Additional percussionists and a flugelhornist add a dash of spice.

As Brazilian music does so well, this album will take control of your emotions and your feet!  Don’t miss this wax! Tune in Monday night at 8 pm for “Wulfie’s Wax Museum” on the next Monday Night Beat, on KUVO Jazz.
