Join host Michael Wulfsohn on Monday night for “Wulfie’s Wax Museum,” on the Monday Night Beat, as we celebrate the life and birthday of one of the most talented and popular trumpeters to contribute to the world of jazz, Freddie Hubbard. We’ll take a listen to Freddie’s 28th album as a leader, and his 8th and final release on the CTI label, “Polar AC.”

This LP was pieced together from 4 different recording dates between 1971 to 1973, including unreleased tunes from his “First Light,” and “Sky Dive” sessions, and thus, is technically a compilation album, but, a tasty compilation for sure.  Freddie is backed up by an impressive team of sidemen, including Junior Cook, Hubert Laws, George Benson, George Cables, Ron Carter, Jack DeJohnette, Lenny White, Airto Moreira, and funkmaster drummer, Billy Cobham.

Freddie was heavily influenced by Lee Morgan, and ironically, ended up replacing Lee in Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. Freddie also performed with greats such as Wes Montgomery, Sonny Rollins, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, and a multitude of other jazz greats, as well as leading on over 60 albums in his career.

Don’t miss this chilled out, cool wax! Tune in Monday, April 8 at 8:00 pm for “Wulfie’s Wax Museum” on the next Monday Night Beat, on KUVO Jazz.
