Join host Michael Wulfsohn on Monday night, November 19 at 8 pm for “Wulfie’s Wax Museum,” on the Monday Night Beat, as we time travel back to the mid-’70’s, and experience Patrice Rushen reaching out on her 2nd album as a leader, “Before the Dawn.” This LP, released in 1975 on the Prestige label, demonstrates why she is one of the funkiest women in jazz. Patrice features vocalist Josie James, flutist Hubert Laws, and guitarist Lee Ritenour joining in.

Rushen’s amazing keyboard skills conjure up influential musical images of McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Jimmy Smith, just to name a few, in varying genres of Jazz Fusion, Funk, R&B, Blues, and Straight Ahead.  Never shy about using electronic effects to supplement pure piano and organ tones, Patrice keeps you listening and anticipating the next fresh musical idea.

This is a fun album to hear, so remember to tune in Monday night, November 19 at 8 pm for the next Monday Night Beat, on KUVO Jazz.
