Wish of a Life Time Gala – Night of Living Legends | Apr 29
Wish of a Lifetime aims to change the way society views and values aging by fulfilling the longtime wishes of deserving seniors, and sharing their stories. Founded in 2008 by former NFL player and Olympic skier Jeremy Bloom, the organization has fulfilled over 1500 wishes for seniors across the country.
A Night of Living Legends is a celebration of seniors who live full, vibrant and meaningful lives. The evening will highlight the many inspirational wishes granted over the past year, including that of 93-year-old Mel Heckman, a Pearl Harbor survivor who returned for the 75th Anniversary of the attacks last December. Guests will be entertained by R&B guitarist Robert Lee Coleman, who played with Percy Sledge and James Brown, and still shreds onstage at the age of 71. 100% of the evening’s proceeds will benefit the Wish Fulfillment Program, so that many more seniors can experience their dreams in 2017. Robert Lee Coleman of Macon, Georgia played guitar for Percy Sledge from 1964 to 1969. In 1970, James Brown hired him for his new band, “the JBs.” Robert’s guitar is featured on Brown’s album “Hot Pants,” including the songs “Revolution of the Mind,” recorded live at the Apollo Theater & “Make It Funky” from the Soul Classics LP. Coleman is currently a featured artist of the Music Maker Relief Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the musical traditions of the South.
