What’s Going On: The Era That Changed Music

In the 60s, the Vietnam War divided the country, but the music united the troops and the country. Tune in to KUVO  for a weekend of the music of the era starting with “Latin Soul Party” on Friday, September 15 at 8pm.

 

On Friday at 10 pm, the “Funky Boombox” with Rob Seligmann will track two hours of protest songs from the 60s, 70s, and this century. Host Rob Seligmann and guest Steve Chavis will present music and context from artists like Edwin Starr and Marvin Gaye, as well as some new protest sounds inspired by the 60s and 70s. Music from Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, the New Orleans Social Club, John Legend and others each lend their voices to the profound discussion.

 

On Saturday, September 16, “All Blues” at 4pm will look at the Blues music of the era. On Sunday, September 17, from 10am to 1pm “Cancion Mexicana” will dig into the rhythm and roots of the times. On Sunday at 1pm, “La Raza Rocks” host Pocho Joe presents the music and a few stories of how the war and the protests impacted Chicano history and culture. He’ll also share what became of some of the artists directly impacted by the conflict in Southeast Asia, as well as other overlooked details of the times.
