Vinyl Vault — The Hoops McCann Band Plays the Music of Steely Dan
The Vinyl Vault digs some jazzed up Steely Dan with the Hoops McCann Band and their 1988 album on MCA Records. It’s a nine-piece band playing semi-big band arrangements of some of the classic Walter Becker/Donald Fagan Steely Dan material from the 1970s.

The Hoops McCann Band was formed in 1982 to play at the first annual Mount Hood Jazz Festival just outside Portland, OR. Some of the arrangements were written by Victor Feldman, a veteran of some Steely Dan sessions. Joe Roccisano conducted the band.
Some of the soloists included Chuck Findley on trumpet, Slyde Hyde on trombone and Bill Perkins on bari and soprano sax. Paul Humphry was the drummer and Chuck Berghofer played bass. Rounding out the band were Michael Lang on piano, Mitch Holder on guitar, Jim Coile on tenor and soprano sax and Jerome Richardson on alto, soprano sax and flute.
