Vinyl Vault — The Great Buddy Tate
Sax and clarinet man Buddy Tate will be our next feature on the Vinyl Vault. We’ll hear some tracks from his 1981 release on Concord Jazz Records entitled “The Great Buddy Tate.”
Vinyl Vault is sponsored by Vinyl Me, Please
Tate was a veteran of the Basie Band and earned his swing credentials in that unit. He remained active through the bebop period and by 1981 he had seamlessly synthesized the two genres into a tasteful, sophisticated sound displayed throughout this album.
“The Great Buddy Tate” features a top-shelf roster of sidemen including Warren Vache on cornet, Hank Jones on piano, Milt Hinton on bass, and Mel Lewis on drums. Tate plays both tenor and baritone sax as well as clarinet. It’s a swinging session of jazz standards you won’t want to miss.
