Vinyl Vault — Spheroe, “Spheroe”
This week on the Vinyl Vault we’ll have some progressive jazz-rock fusion from France with the band Spheroe. We’ll hear some tracks from their eponymous album released in the USA in 1978 on the Inner City Record Label.
The band was a quartet with bass, drums, guitar, and keyboards and borrowed heavily from the sounds of Return to Forever and Brand X. The album features high-energy jazz-rock with highly arranged passages juxtaposed against extended solos. While the band could throw down complicated, exciting unison runs, it could also back off into a more reflective, contemplative approach making for interesting contrasts throughout the album. Spheroe was not a widely known band, even in their heyday, especially in the United States, but they had something to say in an enjoyable and attention-getting manner.
Join host Geoff Anderson on Tuesday, July 23 at 8:30 pm for some jazz-rock from across the pond when the Vinyl Vault presents Spheroe on the Vinyl Vault on KUVO JAZZ.
