Vinyl Vault: “Rejoicing” by Pat Metheny 1984
This week’s Vinyl Vault, fundraiser addition, will be Pat Metheny’s 1984 album “Rejoicing” released on ECM records. Heavily influenced by Ornette Coleman, it not only features three Coleman compositions, but also Coleman’s rhythm section in bassist Charlie Haden and drummer Billy Higgins. Metheny wrote several tunes on the album, Haden wrote one and the album kicks off with a Horace Silver composition. The players are highly compatible and sympathetic and the trio format gives Metheny plenty of room for his unique solos. Join Geoff Anderson for the Vinyl Vault this Tuesday, October 2 at 8:30 pm on KUVO JAZZ.
