Vinyl Vault — Pharoah Sanders, “Love in Us All”
September was a tough month in the jazz world. Not only did we lose Ramsey Lewis, but groundbreaking jazz man Pharoah Sanders passed away on the 24th. An acolyte of John Coltrane, he pushed the frontiers of free jazz and spirituality in jazz. Tonight on the Vinyl Vault we’ll hear from his 1974 release on Impulse! Records, “Love in Us All.”
Vinyl Vault is sponsored by Vinyl Me, Please
The album comprises only two- 20-minute tracks and we’ll hear “Love is Everywhere,” a relaxed, spiritually infused stroll anchored by Denver’s own, the late Joe Bonner on piano. Sanders, of course, plays numerous saxophones. Also on the album are Cecil McBee on bass, Norman Connors on drums, James Branch on flute, and Badal Roy, James Mtume and Lawrence Killian on percussion.
Join Geoff Anderson as we remember Pharoah Sanders on the next Vinyl Vault, on Tuesday, October 4 at 8:30 pm on KUVO JAZZ.
