Vinyl Vault—Masques

Masks! Masques! They’re in vogue, they’re out of fashion, they’re a political statement, they’re ubiquitous. And “Masques” is the name of this week’s Vinyl Vault feature. It’s a 1978 album by the British fusion band Brand X. Brand X is perhaps best known for its drummer, Phil Collins of Genesis. But this was the first Brand X album without Collins. Nevertheless, the band put together a tight, virtuosic performance of highly melodic instrumentals.
