Vinyl Vault: “Gnu High”

This week’s Vinyl Vault feature is a 1976 album from flugelhornist Kenny Wheeler entitled “Gnu High.” This ECM release features Keith Jarrett on piano, Dave Holland on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums. This was the first of a long string of albums Wheeler recorded for ECM. Unlike many ECM albums that tend to be somewhat spacey and ethereal, this one is pretty lively and contains some excellent playing and soloing by all members of the crew.
