Vinyl Vault – Dinah Washington, “For Those in Love”
The Vinyl Vault goes back to 1955 when we sample Dinah Washington’s “For Those in Love.” This EmArcy recording featured Washington in a straight-ahead jazz format with a program of jazz standards and a stellar backing band.

The band included Clark Terry on trumpet; Paul Quinechette on tenor sax; Jimmy Cleveland on trombone; Cecil Payne on bari sax; Keter Betts on bass, Barry Galbraith on guitar; Jimmy Cobb on drums, and Wynton Kelly on piano. The arrangements were courtesy of a very young Quincy Jones.
Washington was well-known as a blues singer, but this album showed she could venture far beyond that category and go toe to toe with the great female jazz singers of the day.
Check out Dinah Washington’s interpretations of some great jazz standards on the Vinyl Vault, with host Geoff Anderson on Tuesday, October 18 at 8:30 pm on KUVO JAZZ!
