Vinyl Vault—Black Nasty, “Talking to the People”
The next time the Vinyl Vault rolls around, it’ll be Independence Day, and the Vinyl Vault will be there to provide some fireworks with the band Black Nasty and their album “Talking to the People.” The album was released in 1973 on Stax/Enterprise Records.
“Talking to the People” was the only album released by Black Nasty, but it’s an energetic, wide-ranging affair. Funk may be the most obvious influence here, but there’s also blues, rock, R&B, soul, and even a bit of jazz. But more than anything, it’s the funk.
The band was from Detroit and this album was recorded shortly after Motown Records relocated its operations to Los Angeles. The album was poorly distributed and sold only a few copies which is why you haven’t heard it. Until now.
So, get ready for the real fireworks with some audio pyrotechnics on the next Vinyl Vault with Geoff Anderson, the Fourth of July edition, on Tuesday, July 4 at 8:30 pm on KUVO JAZZ.
