Vinyl Vault — Bill Evans, “Montreux III”
The Vinyl Vault completes a trifecta, of sorts. The featured album will be “Montreux III” by Bill Evans. The Vinyl Vault has previously featured the other two “Montreux” albums by Evans, so with this one, we will have completed the set.
The album was recorded live at Montreux on July 20, 1975, and released the following year on the Fantasy Record label. Both prior albums were recorded as trios with Eddie Gomez on the bass and different drummers on each prior album. On “Montreux III,” Evans appeared with only a bass player: Eddie Gomez. After playing all that time together, the two players were locked in and could anticipate each other’s next moves. The result is a performance by two highly sympathetic and skilled players.
Tuesday night, July 11, at 8:30 pm we’ll hear compositions by John Lewis, Cole Porter, and others. Check out the Vinyl Vault with Geoff Anderson on KUVO JAZZ.
