Vinyl Vault: “Bantu” by Randy Weston
This week’s Vinyl Vault remembers the late Randy Weston who passed away September 1 at the age of 92. We’ll hear some selections from his album “Bantu.” It’s a two record set that’s actually a reissue of two very different albums. The first is “Uhuru, Afrika” which is an album in the KUVO library, so we’ll only touch briefly on that one. The other record was originally released as “Piano A-La-Mode” which was a trio session from 1957. Connie Kay was the drummer and Peck Morrison played bass. The album is a 50-50 split between jazz standards and Weston originals. Join Geoff Anderson Tuesday at 8:30 for this tribute to Randy Weston, only on KUVO JAZZ.
