Vinyl Vault — Allison Miller, “Rivers in Our Veins”
Drummer Allison Miller’s album, “Rivers in Our Veins,” will be our feature on the next Vinyl Vault. The album was released in 2023 on the Royal Potato Family record label.
The instrumental album was inspired by five rivers in the northeastern United States, Hudson, Potomac, Susquehanna, Delaware, and James, and how the stewardship of those rivers by the local residents could be improved. The album was commissioned by the Lake Placid Center for the Arts and recorded in Vermont.
For this album, Miller assembled some musicians she had worked with before and some she hadn’t. One frequent collaborator was Jenny Scheinman on violin. Also playing on the album was Jason Palmer on trumpet, Ben Goldberg on clarinet and contra-alto clarinet, Carmen Staaf on piano, and Todd Sickafoose on bass. And, in an unusual move, the album also features a troupe of five tap dancers.
Check out the Vinyl Vault with Geoff Anderson on Tuesday, April 23 at 8:30 p.m. on KUVO JAZZ.
