Vinyl Vault – A Ray Brown 3
Join Geoff Anderson this Tuesday on the Vinyl Vault at 8:30pm!
A 1983 album on Concord Records will be our Vinyl Vault feature this Tuesday: “A Ray Brown 3” featuring, of course, Ray Brown on bass. He was joined on the session by Monty Alexander on piano and Sam Most on the flute. With a line-up like that, you know it will be nothing but impeccable jazz of the highest order. And swinging too.
The program consists primarily of covers, but mostly lesser known songs as opposed to a series of jazz standards. An exception is “Blue Monk,” but this trio’s treatment is anything but standard. Other selections include “I Wish You Love” and “Too Late Now.”
And, as you may have noticed, this is a trio with no drummer. However, each player digs deeply into the rhythm to the point that you may not even realize the absence of percussion.
