Vail Jazz welcomes new artistic director Drew Zaremba

After the passing of founding director of Vail Jazz Howard Stone in 2022, the Vail Jazz Foundation has named educator-arranger-composer-saxophonist Drew Zaremba as its incoming Artistic Director. He’s on the music faculty at the University of Northern Colorado, and he’s music director for the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra too.

This year John Clayton added to his duties as director of the Vail Jazz Workshop to book artists for the 2023 festival, which runs through the summer. In this edited conversation Drew talks about being mentored by John Clayton, the impact of the summer workshop for high school-age jazz students, and how the Vail Jazz Foundation moves forward.
