UNC Greeley Jazz Fest: Joey DeFrancesco, plus Houston Person & Tamir Hendelman – on Saturday, 4/23 – 7:30pm in the Monfort Hall of the Union Colony Civic Center.  A Tribute to Jimmy Smith featuring Joey DeFrancesco with the Downbeat Award-Winning UNC Jazz Lab Band I plus Houston Person and Tamir Hendelman. Jazz organist Joey DeFrancesco joined Miles Davis’s band at age 17, and went on to perform with John McLaughlin, Ray Charles, Elvin Jones and many others.  A protege and friend of the late Jimmy Smith, he has been at the top of the B-3 crop for 20-plus years, and now is the model for a new generation of players.
