Sean McGowan: “Union Station”
Sean is an extraordinary “finger-style” guitarist who has performed solo guitar recitals around the globe. McGowan is an avid arts educator and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Colorado Denver. Sean’s love of trains and of Union Station inspired the songs he composed for his latest recording featuring Jeff Jenkins-organ and Todd Reid at the drums.
Jazzmeia Horn and Her Noble Force: “dear love”
Since emerging on the scene just a few years ago, Jazzmeia has rapidly risen to the top tier of vocalists. With this new project, she is certainly going to become a most sought out singer, activist, and educator. This recording is one of the very rare instances when a Black female has written and fronted a big band with strings. her pianist, the amazing Sullivan Fortner handled all the arrangements on this stellar album.
Dave Stryker With String Quartet: “As We Are”
Over the last 10 years, Dave has released a series of recordings of soul & pop covers in an organ trio format that has proven to be very successful. This time out Dave chose Julian Shore as the piano to lead the rhythm section of John Patitucci-bass and Brian Blade-drums plus a string quartet. Something different however still something swingin’ as one would expect from Mr. Stryker.
Every Monday starting at Noon, I debut the latest arrivals to the KUVO Jazz library, many of them are debuted ahead of their official release date. In addition to the music comments, I’ll provide a few tidbits about the artist in particular if it’s a new or up-and-coming artist.
