The Latino Cultural Arts Center Opens Las Bodegas to Public Tours
The Latino Cultural Arts Center (LCAC) is non-profit in Denver that celebrates the rich and complex tradiciones encompassing Latinidad – this is an evolving heritage that overlaps Indigenous, African, Asian and European identities. They aim to elevate the artistic and intellectual contributions of Latinos on a multi-generational level by providing a platform for exhibitions, workshops, events, and performances rooted in the cultural legacy of regional, national, and international Latinidad communities.
Over the past year, The LCAC has been developing plans for its newest initiative called Las Bodegas. Las Bodegas is a space that will celebrate the stories and contributions of Latinidad communities across the world while investing in our own. Amenities will include a multi-media lab including a sound booth, two Artist-in-Residence studios, four art classrooms, a conference room, a café focused on workforce development in hospitality, three offices, and a courtyard showcasing murals and landscaping. Las Bodegas will be the LCAC’s hub for digital and visual arts programs and the home of their Ofrendas & Public Arts Mentoring Programs, all focused on wellness and the development of cultural arts bringing about social change and economic empowerment. The community space will also invest in the environment by running 100% on electrical energy, setting an example of sustainability here in Denver as an eco-pilot.
In May, I got the chance to tour this facility and speak with the LCAC’s Executive Director Alfredo Reyes. Las Bodegas is in its pre-construction phase. Alfredo showed me the LCAC’s “Diamond in the Rough”, shining with potential for the Denver Latinidad community. Here is the audio from that walkthrough.
Original Air Date: July 13, 2023
Starting every Thursday in August, they will be opening Las Bodegas for pre-construction walk-throughs until construction begins. The site is in its pre-construction phase meaning no electricity, running water, or bathrooms. Tours last 15-20 minutes. For more information, you can visit LCAC-Denver.
