The Jazz River — Hanukkah Special

Sunday begins the 8 days of Hanukkah, a festival of lights and a celebration of the triumph of unity over discord that Jews have celebrated for thousands of years. Historically, it is a story of a miraculous victory of Maccabee Jews over the Greeks and the liberation of the Jewish temple. Symbolically, it can be seen as the prevailing of faith and the courage to be authentic in the face of overwhelming odds.

Each year Jews light the Menorah candles and shine light into a dark world. It is to remind one another that the war is not over, but that our inner light must rise up and shine against darkness, evil, and indifference.
