The Heavy Hitters: The Writing Process Behind Self-titled, Debut Album

The Heavy Hitters is Mike LeDonne’s, Jazz pianist and organist, and Eric Alexander’s, Jazz Tenor saxophonist, latest sextet. This New York City supergroup includes Eric Alexander on tenor saxophone, Mike LeDonne on piano, Jeremy Pelt on trumpet, Vincent Herring on alto saxophone, Peter Washington on bass, and Kenny Washington on drums. Recorded at the legendary Rudy Van Gelder studio, their self-titled, debut Album The Heavy Hitters has remained on the Jazz Week Charts for 20 consecutive weeks. Mike LeDonne joined Carlos Lando on The Morning Set to talk about the writing process of the album. It features nine original compositions, many of which pay tribute sonically to Iconic Blue Note Label artists of thve 1950s-60s.
