Super Sonido with La Molly — Best of 2023

2023 was another banner year for the Latin Alternative scene. Coming out of the pandemic the music felt like the culmination of years spent in isolation, people wanted to play. It was a coming out of sorts with many artists having spent the intervening years maturing and perfecting their sound. There was new work from old favorites and refreshing new favorites to be discovered.

2023 brought us ” Ese Puerto Existe” the sophomore effort from Paris-based quartet Insolito Universo who encouraged us to explore with wide and excited eyes. Lucas Santtana’s 9th solo album “O Paraiso” was a reminder to care for the paradise beneath our feet and Lila Downs released what may be her most personal work yet, “La Sanchez.”

2023 also brought us much anticipated Long Plays from new acts like Karen y Los Remedios with their call to make space for “Silencio”, and Mito y Comadre’s “Guajirando” which encouraged you to find healing through movement.

While 2023 may have had its ups and downs the steady stream of incredible music got us through.
