You can hear Roxanne Brown’s “Tribute to Billie Holiday at Dazzle Jazz on Saturday, August 6 at 7pm and 9pm.

Roxanne Brown was born into a family of musicians, most notably the late Louise Duncan, international jazz pianist, for whom the Colorado Black Arts Lifetime Achievement award is named. Roxanne received the award herself in 2011 for her extensive musical accomplishments. Music is a part of Roxanne’s DNA, and it is reflected in her songs, appearances, and delivery. Roxanne’s career began in Aspen, Colorado at the Red Onion showroom and restaurant. Trio included acclaimed bassist, and Colorado native, Paul Warburton. Roxanne remained at the Red Onion for four years until offered an engagement in San Francisco, California where she performed at the Both and with Les McCaan and many of the local jazz venues for over 20 years. She then appeared at the South Tahoe Nugget and toured the Vegas circuit.

Roxanne was one of the first jazz attractions to appear in Snowmass performing at Cyrano’s, (a natural pairing because of her name), The Twig, and many festivals and parties. The Aspen Jazz Party with Walt Smith and a lineup of music “heavyweights”, appeared for 8 festivals. Roxanne’s career has spanned over 50-years and includes:

Being named the “First Lady of Jazz in Aspen”, during her four year engagement as resident vocalist at the Little Nell Hotel. Appearances at The Burnsley Hotel, Dazzle, El Chapultepec, Marties, Fairmont Hotel, Colorado Black Arts Festival, Estes Park Jazz Festival.

Roxanne appeared as Billie Holiday in the one woman show at the Eulipions Theater production of “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill”, and Blues Speak Woman in the production of “Spunk”.

Roxanne loves to perform in Denver because of the warm and welcoming audiences, and their total appreciation of the music she provides.
