Studio Club: Purnell Steen & Le Jazz Machine

Purnell Steen & Le Jazz Machine are performing for Studio Club on Monday, May 6 from 7 to 8pm. P * S * A * L * M  was founded over 30 years ago by Purnell Steen, and is devoted to playing and perpetuating the “Sounds of 5 Points” as he heard played during it’s heyday  60 + years ago. Their “hybrid style” of playing is the amalgamation of swing, latin, blues, gospel and hard bop. The band has been popular on the club and  festival scene for many years. They have played with such luminaries as Oscar Brown, Jr., George Duke, Eddie “Cleanhead Vinson, and Dianne Reeves, to name but a few. They “swing and sway” at Dazzle every 1st & 3rd Saturdays performing “Pan-cakes with Purnell” which is a finger-poppin’, foot-stompin’ testament to their popularity.
