“People Make the World Go Round” (1971 ) by Thom Bell (1943-present) & Linda Creed (1948 Dec 6-1986 Apr 10) was one of five songs written for The Stylistics’ debut album which reached the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100. This began a string of 12 consecutive top-ten hits for The Stylistics. Bell and Creed wrote eight of the album’s nine songs and went on to form the core of the “Philadelphia Sound”, producing hits into the 1970s, with 125 songs which included 23 gold and platinum albums. Creed described herself at one point as a “Jewish, middle-aged housewife and mother, and I happen to write songs”. Creed had been diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 26 years old and in 1992 was posthumously entered in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
