“Stories of Standards” new host: Rodney Franks!
KUVO’s popular weekday morning feature “Stories of Standards” is getting a new presenter! Afternoon host Rodney Franks takes the reins effective Monday, August 6, 2018.
The transition from Carlos Lando to Rodney was marked by a ceremonial handoff of the Ted Gioia reference book “The Jazz Standards.” (see image) “I can’t think of a better aficionado of this music than Rodney Franks,” said Lando, who founded the feature in 2012. “Rodney’s deep appreciation of the great songs in jazz is matched by his deep knowledge of the personalities. That’s why the feature is so popular – it’s the people behind the music!”
“Stories of Standards has put the spotlight on more than 200 songs so far, from the Great American songbook to modern jazz standards like Miles Davis’ ‘So What’ and Wayne Shorter’s ‘Footprints,’ said Franks. “There is a lot more ground to cover. I look forward to presenting some great jazz interpretations of 20th-century music!”
Rodney Franks has been a host at KUVO since 1995. His weekday afternoon drive-time shift begins at 4:00 p.m. on KUVO Jazz, heard at 89.3 FM and streaming online at KUVO Jazz.
