SF JAZZ Collective | Apr 7
An all-star ensemble comprising eight of the finest performers/composers at work in jazz today, the SFJAZZ Collective premieres innovative new arrangements of the work of iconic Brazilian composer Antônio Carlos Jobim, along with newly minted compositions by the band. A primary creator of the bossa nova style, Jobim merged Brazilian popular song with jazz to form a new and wildly popular hybrid that has captivated listeners since its inception in the 1960s. The Collective highlights the pianist and composer’s immense diversity of expression, re-interpreting timeless classics including “Waters of March,” “Corcovado,” and “The Girl From Ipanema.”
Miguel Zenón – alto saxophone, David Sanchez – tenor saxophone, Etienne Charles – trumpet, Marshall Gilkes – trombone, Warren Wolf – vibraphone, Edward Simon – piano, Matt Brewer – bass, Obed Calvaire – drums
