The Cuban music sensation Orquesta Akokán will be on KUVO’s Salsa Con Jazz program on Sunday, June 30 at 3 p.m.

Orquesta Akokán is a Billboard Latin Music Award-winning, GRAMMY-nominated ensemble based in New York and Cuba. Back at the helm are producer and multi-instrumentalist Jacob Plasse and virtuosic pianist, composer, and arranger Michael Eckroth – a collaboration that continues to lead Orquesta’s exploration of the sublime mambo in all its depth and breadth.

The other members of Orquesta Akokán include new singer and lyricist Kiko Ruiz, as well as Yuya Rodriguez (conga), David Fernandez (Alto Sax), Jose Cruzata Reve (Baritone Sax), Reinaldo Melian (Trumpet), Jonathan Powell (Trumpet), Otto Santana Selis (Timbales / Bongo), Lino Piquero (Bass), Heikel Fabian (Trombone), and Jamil Schery (Tenor Sax).

The broadcast performance was captured at KUVO’s Masterpiece Studio during their recent tour of Colorado. It comes in advance of Orquesta Akokán’s third recording project, “Caracoles” (which means snail), set for release by Daptone Records on July 12, 2024.

Orquesta Akokán, on the air 89.3 FM, on the stream, on the app, and on KUVO’s YouTube and Twitch channels, Sunday, June 30 at 3 p.m.!
