Salsa Con Jazz Celebrates a Caribbean Christmas
We celebrate Christmas on Salsa con Jazz with our favorite holiday dance music—Parrandas, Asaltos, and new holiday tunes by some of our beloved Salsa artists like El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico and Sonora Ponceña! Help us celebrate by sending in your Caribbean Christmas memories during the show or ahead of time, email Janine@kuvo.org and we will have a Caribbean Christmas Musical Party together!
Your Salsa Con Jazz host Janine Santana gets fired up every year around this time. While at home making Coquito, Arroz con Gandules, Pernil, and Pasteles and a little more Coquito, her mind turns to all of the playful and moving holiday music that Afro-Caribbean culture celebrates from December through January. Surely you didn’t think that in Puerto Rico we only celebrate for a few days? NO, Christmas lasts until the end of January, with gifts being given not on Christmas Day, but on The Day Of The Magi, Dia de Reyes which is January 6.
Janine welcomes an international delight of holiday music influenced by both Africa and Spain as well as Indigenous to the Caribbean culture and other countries who have influenced this part of the world.
Enjoy a Caribbean Christmas celebration on Sunday, December 19, at 2 pm. On KUVO JAZZ.
