Royal Roost Revival | Fridays at Nocturne
This is the first volume of an original Nocturne series dedicated to sharing the prodigious art form of bebop. Curated by Colorado-based saxophonist / arranger / composer Wil Swindler, the series name is inspired by the iconic Royal Roost jazz club on New York’s storied 52nd Street in the late 1940’s where bebop was organically brought to life by musicians such as Dexter Gordon, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Tadd Dameron, Fats Navarro, Miles Davis and Max Roach.
Throughout this series, Wil Swindler will be joined on the bandstand by a number of special guests including Jeff Jenkins, Seth Lewis, Dru Heller, Jim White, Matt Smiley, Mark Emmons, Ryan Hayden & Eric Gunnison.
Nocturne Jazz & Supper Club presents
Royal Roost Revival
Fridays through August
We anticipate this series to be very popular and reservations are highly recommended!
Photo fact: The Royal Roost, an old chicken shack, turned into a great nightclub in the ‘40s that featured all the bebop greats, with Symphony Sid’s radio broadcasts. Charlie Parker led a quintet here in one of those broadcasts, 1948.
