Ritmo Jazz Latino helps with that 1st instrument
interview with Dr. Walter Barr, music from Ritmo Jazz Latino
The 1st Note Music Foundation provides music instruments to at-risk youth. One of Colorado’s newest ensembles Ritmo Jazz Latino is performing this Friday night, Aug. 15 in a benefit for the Foundation at Crossroads Theater, part of the Jazz on the Point series. 1st Note foundation board member and Ritmo Jazz Latino band leader Dr. Walter Barr visited “First Take with Lando and Chavis” to promote the foundation’s work.
“Number one, we want to get to folks who may have an instrument sitting in the closet gathering dust, a flute, a trumpet, a trombone, a clarinet, whatever, and number two, the foundation wants to generate enough money to get those instruments refurbished and into the hands of kids who otherwise might not have the opportunity,” said Barr, himself a trumpeter with RJL.
This Friday’s performance is at 7 p.m. at the Crossroads Theater, 2590 Washington St., Denver, CO 80205. Tickets are available at www.jazzatthepoint.org.
