Andrew Craig examines the use of colored text in “Amy” (Asif  Kapadia, 2015), the critically acclaimed documentary about the life of jazz and contemporary vocalist Amy Winehouse, to raise questions about the politics of individuality as they relate to isolation. 
 
“Through coloring the details of Amy’s experience, the film asserts Amy’s individuality by graphically demonstrating the degree to which she was different from the people around her. Her difference was, in effect, a form of isolation.”
