“Piano Africa” – Saturday Night Artist in Residence Series at Nocturne Jazz & Supper Club – September & October 7 to 11pm.

Since Duke Ellington “discovered” Dollar Brand (known now is Abdullah Ibrahim) in 1963, the western world has become aware of the strong and beautiful influences that African music has had on jazz. The rhythmic backbone of jazz has always been steeped in the music of the African continent, and pianist Abdullah Ibrahim has long been on the forefront of these influences. To honor the great Abdullah Ibrahim, Jeff Jenkins brings Soweto and other traditional African rhythms, into focus while performing Ellington, original, straight ahead, and related bebop material. This effusive, innovative upbeat celebration of music will be performed by Greg Harris, Mike MarlierPatrick McDevitt, and Anisha Rush.

*A weeknight artist fee of $10 per person will be applied to each check
