Orquesta Akokán with Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentlemen are performing at Arvada Center on Sunday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. (doors at 6 p.m.

Cuba’s number one big band, Orquesta Akokàn is playing at the Arvada Center and will stop by KUVO for a special performance that will be recorded and you’ll get to be part of this recording session.

Straight out of Havana, Cuba comes Orquesta Akokàn – a blazing ensemble of deeply soulful mambo reminiscent of Benny Moré, Pérez Prado, and Banda. A Cuban mambo band whose name comes from the Yoruban word for “from the heart.” The band was formed by producer Jacob Plasse, pianist, composer, and arranger Michael Eckroth, and vocalist José “Pepito” Gómez. The group’s style is inspired by mid-century Cuban band music, and they’ve been praised for their soulful sound.
