On Stage—The Hot Sardines

KUVO’s archive performance series “On Stage,” revisits the Vail Jazz Festival summer concert at Vail Square with an encore performance by “The Hot Sardines” this Saturday, September 12, at 10 pm with host Susan Gatschet.

Under the tent at Vail Square, The Hot Sardines brought their vintage (and modern) swing to Colorado’s summer mountains. The eight-piece band’s horn arrangements, rollicking piano melodies, and chanteuse-led vocals conjure the feeling of a Parisian cabaret or Jazz Age speakeasy. Bandleader Evan Palazzo and lead singer Elizabeth Bougerol count among their influences Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday. Billboard and iTunes charts have noticed them, as have underground Brooklyn clubs, the Newport Jazz Festival, and now, Vail Jazz!
