On Stage: National Poetry Month with Jazz!

In addition to being Jazz Appreciation Month, April is also National Poetry Month. On Sunday, April 1 at 4pm, “On Stage” marks that eternally cool mash-up of artistic expression with a few jazz poetry sessions captured at KUVO with Lou Malandra!

Pianist Doug Roche has been at Malandra’s musical right hand for years. The May 2002 collaboration called “Poe Jazz” included Ron Bland on bass. A couple of years later – in 2005 – drummer Jill Fredericksen joined the band for a KUVO session. Poe Jazz returned in 2006 for another set of classic jazz set to fiery lyrical prose by Lou Malandra.

“On Stage” is KUVO’s weekly deep-dive into our archives. It’s a showcase for live music by local and national artists, rebroadcast as they were performed live on the radio. “On Stage” is heard Sunday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. “On Stage,” a KUVO exclusive!
