On Stage: Jazz and Poetry with David Amram!
This Sunday, November 12th, at 4 p.m., KUVO’s performance series “On Stage” features the jazz and poetry of David Amram. Amram was there in clubs of Greenwich Village in the 1950s when Beat Poets first set their music to jazz. Since then his music and compositions have touched the big screen, and crossed jazz, classical and Latin music genres.
From a visit to KUVO in 2005, Amram reflects on the early days of the jazz-poetry mash-up, and he shares the mic with Colorado poet Lou Malandra. And from his Denver stop on a 2012 tour with Josh White, Jr., Amram and White shared a few folk and blues tunes with a live KUVO audience. Still performing, Amram celebrates his 87th birthday this week!
Catch highlights from the improvised performances of David Amram, recorded as they were broadcast live from KUVO’s Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio! That’s this Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. “On Stage,” a KUVO exclusive!
